Microsoft Launch Tech City Accelerator

‘Tech That’: Microsoft are ‘Back For Good’ after launching East London Accelerator

In a surprising move, Microsoft Ventures have announced the launch of an accelerator in Google’s backyard. Focusing on gaming and tech start-ups, the venture will put two global heavyweights under one roof in Tech City.

London’s skill cluster already houses some of the world’s premier innovative technology companies and continues to attract household names. At its northern boundaries, Google have just been given the green light for a sprawling Kings Cross campus. To the east, rumours of Hackney Wick becoming the next ‘sub-hub’ are bumbling up through the Shoreditch back streets.

Microsoft’s foray into East London’s accelerator scene is founded on an impressive foundation of international success – 85% of its 119 alumni have managed to secure subsequent investment. A cynic may suggest that the Microsoft name may have a lot to do with this… but certainly not us!

The number of accelerators in East London is on the up, with an increasing number investing in the Tech City project. Organisations from outside the capital are being attracted to the cluster to benefit from its superior networking opportunities and infrastructure. No doubt, as the newest addition to the accelerator scene, Microsoft will be inundated talented start-ups keen to benefit from the software giant’s experience and expertise.

We will watch with great interest as to how this new found cohabitation develops, and how Microsoft Ventures settle into the home of East London’s finest including SeedcampTechHub and Central Working. If nothing else, it may make for some heated water cooler small talk!
